Create slide backgrounds with Bing

Purple Science Slide Background

In an earlier post, I described Microsoft Bing Image Creator and some uses for it in your teaching. This time, I’ve got just a quick and easy timesaver.

I use slides almost every day, although I’ve gotten away from using them in my actual teaching. Instead, I usually have a single slide up as students come into the room. It gives them the “Do Now” directions and any other things they might need to know as they get settled at the start of class.

And as much as I know in my brain that the slides don’t need to look beautiful to be effective, I want them to. I guess that’s one of my weaknesses, and I probably spend too much time looking for the perfect theme over at SlidesGo and other sites that offer free templates.

Enter Microsoft Bing Image Creator.

Head over to Bing, and describe the background you want: generate an image suitable for use as a background in Google Slides or Powerpoint. The image should have the following features

and then just list what you want. Examples:

  • with purple as the overarching color, images related to science and science labs
  • a photograph of woods at dusk, with fog throughout
  • an orange and blue color scheme, made up of random shapes
  • a blurry gradient that runs from dark green to light green, starting at the bottom and moving to the top
  • cartoon-style cute puppies around the outside border, with a large blank space in the middle

and so on.
